Walk to the bar just to stay in shape

Los Angeles band garbagebarbie shares the video to their single, “punk”. The band opens up about drawing inspiration from the people they've met, causing a little ruckus, and filming the video at one of their favorite dive bars in the city.

Los Angeles, USA

What is the garbagebarbie origin story?

garbagebarbie began after Fletcher, Dan, and Braedon met on a gig playing for another artist. We all played so well together and it felt so natural that we just started writing music together. Braedon invited Anson to come play bass on some songs and we ended up writing an ep in two days.

What is your music about?

Our music is about the experiences and the people we encounter every day in Los Angeles. We meet so many different characters and witness so much in this city that it only feels right to write about those experiences.

What have been some highlights during the band's journey?

(Braedon)- some highlights for me personally, are when we sold out The Echo and played at Crawfords for the first time. These moments felt like such milestones for us as a band and it was amazing to experience those shows with our friends and fans.

You are sharing the music video to your single, "Punk".  What is the song about?

“Punk” is about the people we have met and places we have been as a band, especially when it comes to dive bars in Los Angeles. We don’t go out to clubs or anything like that, so our interactions with people mainly come from our favorite dive bars. We wanted to encompass that in a song.

How does "Punk" show your growth as a band?

I feel like “punk” shows our growth as a band because it’s a sound that we’ve wanted to capture for a while. It kind of has that viagra boys flair but we’ve made it our own.

How does the video represent the song? How did you come up with the concept?

The video captures the essence of the song because it showcases exactly what the song is about. A guy who is kind of a motherf*cker who goes to a dive bar, causes and ruckus and goes crazy for whatever band is playing that night. So the concept came entirely from the lyrics of the song.

What was the filming process like?

The filming process was insane. We started filming at our favorite dive bars, crawfords, at about 9am. We got our best friends and regulars from crawfords to show up and be in the video which was super fun. Budweiser dropped off some beers and it just turned into a big party. The star of the video, Sam Hendricks, is so much fun to be around and it made the day that much better.

What were some fun moments and challenges you experienced during filming?

The day in general was pretty challenging, but at the same time we just had a blast. We had what felt like a million shots to cross of our list, but the crew that worked with us was amazing. The director, JP, had such a vision for this music video and he executed it flawlessly.

What's next for Garbage Barbie?

In terms of what’s next for us, we have our debut album everybodydies coming out in September. We are also playing shaky knees that month and vans warped tour Orlando in November. We are super excited for our debut record to come out and to continue playing live. Our community is super important to us so meeting new fans is something we are also looking forward to for the rest of this year and beyond.
