Psychedelic Summer Songs

The New York City based record label and collective, Green Witch Recordings, released a second compilation of songs by artists from their label called “Audio Spells Vol. 2”, just in time for summer. Below are a few artists featured on the compilation.

“Our ‘Audio Spells’ compilation series is a celebration of the artists on our label. This is the second volume of the series, and consists of our best alternative and psychedelic summer songs. We're obsessed with the warmth of analog mediums, so this compilation is available on cassette, and the washed out sound of so many of our artists is reminiscent of the hazy memories of summers past. The record consists of artists from everywhere in the U.S from New York City to L.A., and international acts from the U.K., Canada, and Germany.

The purpose of this record from a label perspective is to cross-pollinate the audiences of some of the best underground indie artists in the world. We want to create an international community that allows each of our artists to gain exposure to their peers' fan bases. From a listener's experience, I think the record captures the psychedelic fog of childhood summers. The beaches, the freedom, the sunsets over the ocean, and the nostalgia that we all experience from certain songs.

Our process includes curating fresh tracks from our favorite bands and trying to compile them into one piece of music. We really believe this compilation plays seamlessly as a collective whole.”

Teenage Cavegirl by Jackon Montgomery Schwartz

Teenage Cavegirl

They’re not a 60’s retro garage act, they aren’t 70’s punk purists and they don’t worship trendy 80’s nostalgia. Teenage Cavegirl is modern primitive music for the real rock n’ rollers. Straight out of Austin the guy/girl duo of L.A. Scum and Andy Ray Lemon has released on 45 and the 10 inch LP Candy Cigarettes that have had critics unanimous in their praise for its consistently infectious marriage of bubblegum licks and primal power. Discover trashpop bop with the bonehead beat with their latest single “Uzi Beach” available now on Green Witch Recordings “Audio Spells Volume 2.”

Ceremony East Coast by Kirai Gigs

Ceremony East Coast

Fuzzy bass lines, white noise guitars, savage drums and intense vocals. Nothing polished, highs and lows. Each live show and record is raw, real and Ceremony East Coast style: #lovesongswithdistortion.

Ceremony East Coast is John Fedowitz, former member of the legendary 90s shoegaze band Skywave, on bass and guitar and Sandra Fedowitz on drums. And yes, Ceremony East Coast is Ceremony, the former band of John Fedowitz and alternating band members. The band has played shows around the globe from China to Europe, to the East and West Coast of the USA. The two-piece band has self-released 3 albums since 2018: EAST COAST, DARLING and CANDY, and keeps on rollin’. Join the ride and check out their latest single “Wishful Thinking” only on Green Witch Recordings “Audio Spells Volume 2”.

Chill Russell

Chill Russell

“We’re on a mission from God” jokes producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith, describing his approach to recording Chill Russell’s latest album, while channeling the divine musical quest of the Blues Brothers. Even though they aren’t exactly a blues band, according to DIY Magazine, “their psych-inflected sound might owe nods to The Beach Boys and The Strokes, but in truth, they’re not a million miles away from chart-bothering beasts The Black Keys.”

You can hear the latest single from the long time practitioners of the indie approach “Livin’ In Your Head” on Green Witch Recordings “Audio Spells Volume 2.”

Highlands by Chad Huff

Highlands

Having shared the stage with modern psych rock trailblazers, such as Black Mountain, Dead Meadow, A Place to Bury Strangers, Cosmonauts, Sleepy Sun, Lumerians, Orange Revival, White Hills, Spindrift, and at festivals such as Psycho Las Vegas, Desert Daze, and Desert Stars, the spaced out quartet Highlands certainly have their neo-psychedelic credentials verified.

The band, consisting of Scott Holmes, Beau Balek, Justin Ivey, and J.P. Bendzinski draw their influences from Jesus and Mary Chain, The Chameleons, Slowdive, and Spacemen 3. You can hear their latest track “Let The Good Times Roll” now on Green Witch Recordings “Audio Spells Volume 2”.

Mothra Stewart by Patrick Barrow

Mothra Stewart

Mothra Stewart is the brainchild of New York City based musician and songwriter, Marc LeFebvre. After relocation to New York from Austin, TX, LeFebvre took the moniker as a creative vehicle to write, record, and unleash his music on the world.

Mothra Stewart’s sound can be described as a mix of lo-fi, indie, shoegaze, noise, and bedroom pop. Tinges of The Pixies, Elliott Smith, Modest Mouse, and The War on Drugs paint Mothra Stewart’s debut 7 inch single and his EP “The Times They AI a-Changin’”. You can hear his newest single “The Marathon” on Green Witch Recordings “Audio Spells Volume 2”.

These People

These People is the solo project of Long Beach, NY Producer and Songwriter TJ Penzone. The project began after his former band Men, Women & Children (Reprise Records) disbanded. The live band has a constant rotation of musicians with the songs primarily written, recorded, and produced by TJ. With additional instrumentation, production, and artwork by his brother Rick Penzone (Richard Flesh, Color Film, MWC).

These People’s sound is influenced by multiple genres, with a common theme of primal rhythms, angular guitars, synthesized overtones, and ethereal vocals.

You can hear These People’s “A B Vision” on Green Witch Recordings “Audio Spells Volume 2”.
